In Jinta county, Jiuquan, Gansu province, rows of photovoltaic panels and wind turbines now define the landscape, while thermal storage units and power lines stretch across the Gobi Desert. This industrial scene marks the county's transformation from merely possessing resources to making effective use of them.
Rich in wind and solar energy, Jinta once struggled to convert these natural assets into economic gains. The sector was hampered by short value chains and low added value, preventing it from fully realizing its potential.
In recent years, guided by the national carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals, Jinta has harnessed its natural advantages to pursue high-quality development across the renewable energy chain.
By focusing on strengthening, extending, and integrating the chain, Jinta has adopted a "Green Electricity plus" model. The county has attracted major projects to build an integrated industrial system of "wind, solar, hydrogen, ammonia, and alcohol," converting green electricity into clean energy carriers, expanding its applications, and enhancing its value.
Additionally, Jinta is exploring the construction of a "zero-carbon park". It is creating a comprehensive energy system featuring green power supply, energy storage support, and recycling to attract industries with high energy consumption and high added value, achieving energy self-sufficiency and near-zero carbon emissions.
From struggling with resource conversion to thriving through strong industrial development, Jinta county is charting a path of limitless potential across the vast Gobi Desert.
