Jiuquan overview

Jiuquan achieved steady, high-quality economic growth in 2025, with its GDP reaching 110.36 billion yuan ($15.98 billion), up 6.3 percent year-on-year.

Industrial enterprises above the designated size saw output rise by 10.2 percent, while total retail sales of consumer goods grew by 6.7 percent. General public budget revenue increased by 8.3 percent, and per capita disposable income rose by 5.5 percent for urban residents and 5.9 percent for rural residents. The city's primary industry's growth rate ranked first in the province.

Project construction remained the core engine of development, with Jiuquan implementing 816 key projects and completing 77.5 billion yuan in investments, ranking second in the province. The city introduced 97 major projects worth over 100 million yuan each, with funds totaling 113 billion yuan, up 20.6 percent, placing Jiuquan first province-wide for investment promotion performance.

Industry played a decisive role, contributing 46.2 percent to overall economic growth. The number of industrial enterprises above the designated size increased to more than 480, ranking second in the province.

The city further strengthened its position as a national new energy base, with over 6.58 million kilowatts of new installed and grid-connected capacity added, bringing total installed capacity to over 40 million kilowatts. Two 750-kilovolt substations were completed, and the Changle Power Plant, the country's largest million-kilowatt peak-shaving thermal power cluster, began operation.

Agriculture expanded steadily, as high-efficiency seed production areas increased by 32,000 mu (2,133 hectares), while vegetable planting areas grew by 40,000 mu, with output rising by 150,000 metric tons. Grain planting areas reached 1.03 million mu, with the city cultivating 101 new crop varieties and adding 152 new agricultural business entities.

Jiuquan dispatched six international freight trains carrying 101 containers of specialty goods weighing 2,078 tons and valued at nearly 200 million yuan, as total imports and exports reached 1.6 billion yuan.

Cultural tourism and services gained vitality, while 54 ecological governance projects restored 164,000 mu of degraded forest and stabilized 98.3 kilometers of desert edges.

Approximately 13,000 new urban jobs were created, seven schools were opened, and 410 million yuan in assistance funds benefited 71,000 residents.

Jiuquan's high-quality development was evident in 2025, demonstrating a clear path toward industrial strength, green transformation, expanded openness, and improved livelihoods.
