Jiuquan recorded a grain-sown area of nearly 1.03 million mu (68,666 hectares) and a total output of 587,100 metric tons in 2025, reaching 101.8 percent and 102 percent of the provincial targets, respectively.

This marks the fifth consecutive year the city has surpassed its assigned grain production goals, achieving a five-year streak of growth, while its per-mu grain yield ranked second in Gansu province.

By integrating high-quality farmland, improved seeds, modern machinery, and scientific farming methods, Jiuquan has steadily strengthened its overall grain production capacity.

In 2025, over 67 million yuan ($9.64 million) was allocated in grain production subsidies to boost farmers' enthusiasm through policy incentives. Farmland quality was also enhanced across the board, with progress made on 234,200 mu of high-standard farmland.

Pilot projects such as comprehensive saline-alkali land remediation efforts were carried out, raising crop yields by 10 to 20 percent in the Dunhuang project zone.

At the same time, technical guidance and services were reinforced, with the promotion of superior varieties and scientific cultivation techniques. Sixteen demonstration sites for yield improvement were set up, introducing 131 new crop varieties and extending water-saving, high-yield techniques across 315,700 mu.

Moreover, Jiuquan actively advanced new socialized agricultural machinery service models, such as the full-process mechanization and integrated farming services. It guided 140 agricultural machinery cooperatives to offer entrusted services, covering an operational area of 3.16 million mu.
