From January to September, Jiuquan in Gansu province is estimated to have received 51.6 million tourist visits, generating 48.8 billion yuan ($6.85 billion) in tourism revenue, according to local authorities.
The city has expanded its hospitality capacity, adding 41 star-rated hotels with more than 5,800 rooms and over 10,000 beds, further improving its ability to accommodate tourists.
Air connectivity has also advanced. Dunhuang Mogao International Airport has launched routes to Hong Kong and Malaysia, while Jiayuguan Jiuquan Airport now connects with more than 30 major cities, including Beijing and Shanghai, ensuring efficient links between source markets and destinations.
Jiuquan recorded 305,600 study tour visits during the period and has been developing aerospace-themed and outdoor recreation projects such as hiking, rock climbing, and desert off-road experiences, forming a year-round outdoor activity system.
To enhance its cultural tourism appeal, the city has invited travel bloggers and online influencers to experience and share Jiuquan's attractions.
