Suzhou district of Jiuquan city, in Northwest China's Gansu province, is located in the western section of the Hexi Corridor -- the main artery of the ancient Silk Road. It is the center of politics, economics and culture of the city.
Within the territory are several 4A-level scenic spots that boasting Han-style gardens, a sea of reeds, strange stones and Chinese alcohol culture.
Covering an area of 270,000 square meters, the gardens of the Han dynasty (206 BC-AD 220) there are well-preserved in spite of more than 2,000 years of vicissitudes.
In the north stands a world heritage site -- the Ming Dynasty Great Wall, simple and elegant, 64.8 kilometers winding its way through the district. It is said that the Ming Great Wall starts in Hushan in Liaoning province and ends at Jiayu Pass in Gansu province.
The district is also home to the intangible heritage Hexi Baojuan (literally, Volumes of Treasure) -- a type of popular folk literature based on Buddhist preaching in the temples where the lecturing monks told stories from Buddhist classics and sung during the Tang and Song dynasties (618-1279AD).
Suzhou has a big trove of ancient treasure. Over 6,000 sets of cultural relics are now kept in four sites protected at the national level.
